Joshua Tree Field Station
Yucca Valley, CA
The Challenge
Field Station’s team envisioned a high-end basecamp designed for active travelers — but the project had to be delivered within the constraints of an aging motel made up of multiple additions and inconsistent renovations. The challenge was to translate a bold new concept into a fragmented existing property without blowing the budget or compromising the integrity of the vision.
The Approach
Two Trout began with a detailed property and concept analysis, mapping the critical moments of the guest journey, defining the necessary facility program spaces, and the core elements of the brand experience. This framework guided a strategic evaluation of existing structures, allowing the team to prioritize where investment would deliver the greatest operational and experiential impact.
The Result
By focusing resources on high-impact interventions, the project avoided unnecessary demolition and made efficient use of existing structures. The result is an intuitive, highly functional stay designed for the Joshua Tree adventurer, accommodating families, pets, bikes, and gear, while maximizing the client’s budget and bringing the concept to life in a way that feels both thoughtful and seamless.
